as a unified community is to build a strong academic foundation,
encourage an eagerness to learn, foster personal strengths,
enhance positive social skills,
and nurture community involvement for all our children,
by providing a challenging,
interactive education in a safe environment.
Ashaway Elementary School's Leadership Council has been in existence since September 1996. The council was formed as part of a state-wide initiative to improve the quality of education children are receiving.
The Ashaway Leadership Council (ALC) is a school improvement team comprised of school administration, staff, parents and community members working together to support the mission of the school, to improve student achievement, to enhance the quality of education for students, teachers and parents, and to take the initiative to "make things better".
Thus far, the ALC has:
-
- Created and published a mission statement for the school that all teachers, staff and students have learned and adopted,
- Assisted in the creation and implementation of the professional development plan, thus assuring the eligibility of funding for the school,
- Participated in, by representation, subcommittees of the Chariho School Committee, including the screening committee to find a new principal,
- Solicited and received several thousands of dollars for computers to be used in the Ashaway School classrooms, and
- Addressed safety issues and made recommendations to correct them.
The core council shall ideally consist of the following membership from the Ashaway community:
1 School Administrator
2 Community Members
4 Teachers
6 Parents
As needed an "educational resource person/consultant" will be invited.
Interested parties are always welcome to observe these meetings, join support committees, and offer new initiatives.
The ALC is interested in people who can commit the time to help us achieve our goals, creatively make improvements at our school that will help us to meet or exceed our expectations of student performance, and can productively participate in a consensus decision making process.
Meetings of the ALC are open to everyone.
Meetings are held the first Monday of every month, right after school in the principal's office.
