The Hope Valley School is the next to smallest of the four elementary schools in the Chariho Regional School District. The school averages approximately 270 students in grades Pre-K through 4. The original structure, built in 1933, houses the upper elementary grades and the 1955 addition houses the primary grades, library, and the multi-purpose area functions as our gymnasium, cafeteria and assembly area. This past year Hope Valley School became home to one of the district’s two pre-schools. The Hope Valley School is a family/community oriented school with an active PTO, Site Council and parent/community volunteer program.
The Hope Valley School has traditionally done extremely well in academic achievement and has been certified as a Rhode Island High Performing School since achievement levels were first granted several years ago. Central to the CORE academic in Mathematics, Reading, Writing, Social Studies and Science and program also consists a balanced unified arts program consisting of a physical education, health, art, music, and library/media. Additional support services in extended day kindergarten, mathematics literacy, reading and reading literacy, and special education resource are also provided for those children who may benefit from additional assistance in their learning. Additional to our support programs are a school social worker and a school psychologist who we share with our colleague schools The Hope Valley School is active in district initiatives of the “Principles of Learning”, “Professional Learning Communities” and standards based teaching and learning.
The focus of the Parent Teacher Organization is the enhancement of student life through the support of supplemental educational programs and annual family activities. Among PTO endeavors are cultural arts events, resident artist programs, the HOPE after school program, and monthly family events. The Hope Valley Site Council is the school’s improvement and planning team. Composed of parent/community members, faculty/staff, and administration, this team sets and evaluates the school’s annual goals, writes the improvement plan, and at open monthly meetings, addresses routine school issues.
The Hope Valley School maintains an open door policy that encourages and engages parents and community in the education of their children. This practice of active community involvement, an involved PTO, an active school improvement team, a dedicated faculty and staff, an emphasis on respect and responsibility, the involvement of our families and the Chariho Regional School District’s commitment to high academic standards continues to contribute to the traditionally high standing of this school.
