Professional Development Vision

Vision

  • To have a school that is prepared to enter the twenty-first century with updated technology, to include writing, more computers per child in each the classroom, as well as an instructional lab
  • To have the capability to integrate and improve academic areas -- especially science and social studies -- with computer technology as to reinforce and enrich literacy

Goals

  • To further increase the use of technology in the classroom, including use of instructional software and the Internet
  • To improve students' reading comprehension in Grades 1-4, with at-risk students targeted for support services and more teacher training (particular emphasis on Grade 3)
  • To improve students' ability to problem solve and develop a strong working knowledge of the mathematical "language," i.e. explaining the answer in writing
  • To integrate science and social studies with computer technology to reinforce and enrich literacy
  • To explore alternative forms of assessment through technology to better evaluate student performance.
  • To enable as many staff members as possible to attend workshops and training sessions to meet our school's vision and needs as stated
  • To access as many resources and techniques as possible to enhance and improve the quality of student assessment
  • To design and implement purposeful lessons to meet new performance standards.
  • To add to the current practices already proven effective, we will use a variety of new strategies and methods for all students in all learning environments.
  • To continue to implement effective time management techniques in all learning environments.
  • To strengthen classroom management skills that positively affect learning for all students.
  • To follow our school's and district's behavior code for all students.

Needs Assessment

  • Funding for science and social studies resources to include hands-on materials, as well as equipment
  • Workshop opportunities to learn more about utilizing computers to integrate and enhance instruction; opportunities to preview software prior to purchase
