Cosmetology

The Cosmetology program prepares students to apply technical knowledge and skills related to experiences in a variety of beauty treatments including the care and beautification of hair, skin and nails. Instruction includes training in giving shampoos, conditioning and scalp treatments; hair styling, setting, cutting, coloring, foiling and bleaching; permanent waving; facials; manicuring; artificial nails and hand and arm massaging. Bacteriology, anatomy, hygiene, sanitation, salon management, business skills, and customer service are also covered.

The program offers a state-of-the-art salon and a high-quality, competency-based education that follows state and national standards. 1,500 hours of academic study, theory and hands-on training ensure that students gain a complete understanding of the industry, including proper use of tools and equipment, hair styling techniques, spa services, and cosmetology law. Upon reaching 1000 hours students’ may enter an internship program. Earn a Cosmetology license with the RI Department of Health and begin your career early or continue your education and reap even more rewards.

• Permanent Waving, hair straightening, and related chemistry
• Finger waving, pin-curls, roller placement, blow-dry styling, thermal styling, hair design and related chemistry
• Manicuring, pedicuring, nail tips, nail enhancements, gel nails and related chemistry
• Basic skin care, facials, makeup, hair removal, and related chemistry
• Coloring, foiling, ombre and baliage techniques, bleaching, and related chemistry
• Haircutting
• Anatomy
• Sanitation, sterilization, safety, hygiene, laws, rules, and regulations
