FREE Professional Learning Opportunities:

RIDE continues to commit to helping RI schools and districts strengthen their professional learning systems and practices. As promised, they have compiled and continue to update a diverse list of no-cost options for professional learning available to RI educators throughout the fall of 2020.

Note: some of these opportunities take place on the State PD Days - October 19 and November 16.

Updates on School Accountability 2020-2021
School Report Cards and the School Accountability System are an essential part of keeping teachers, students, parents, and the community informed on the progress of their schools. RIDE plans to release accountability results for the 2020-21 school year in Fall 2021, but some of the measures will be affected by COVID-19. For example, to support public health guidance that it is especially important to stay home when students and teachers are sick, RIDE intends to remove the student and teacher absenteeism measures from the accountability system for 2020-21.

In response to questions about school accountability for 2020-21, RIDE has posted a FAQ document on 2021 school accountability.  RIDE will continue updating this document throughout the fall as schools reopen and we receive additional clarity on requirements from the US Department of Education and feedback fromstakeholders.

RIDE Professional Learning Offerings

RIDE continues to commit to helping RI schools and districts strengthen their professional learning systems and practices. Therefore, RIDE has compiled a diverse list of no-cost options for professional learning available to RI educators throughout the week of August 24-28, 2020. We hope both the synchronous and asynchronous offerings provided around health, safety, wellness, and instruction will enhance opportunities for educators, administrators, and staff alike. To maximize time now afforded to educators due to the later start to the school year, we are working with our providers to determine if they can repeat their synchronous offerings, and/or offer new options, also during the week of 8/31-9/4. Therefore, we encourage users to revisit this list throughout the next couple of weeks for the latest information on professional learning offerings. Please email [email protected] for any professional learning questions or concerns.

Go to the Performance Matters webpage under "Staff Resources" on our district site,  and you will find the link to the RICAS Released Test Items now entered in the platform.

All released Gr. 3 and Gr. 4 ELA and Math Items can now be used by teachers in the current grade, and to review results with students from the prior year.
Along with the items, I created a Test for each grade level/subject.  In this way, teacher’s can create their own tests if they just want to choose a few items, or type in the given Test number, “copy” it, then remove or add items to the test that they would like to use at that time.

Gr. 5-8 Math will be the next priority.....

If there is an unseen emergency and you need to administer a test over more than one day, at the end of testing you should selected those students and move them to "Locked Status".  You can then "unlock" them the next day of testing so they can continue the test.

Do not score rubrics/tests until the students have "Finished" the test.

2019 Gr. 3 and Gr. 4 Math RICAS Released Test Items have been entered into the Platform for all teachers to use.
Here is a listing of each Item # and a Test # with all the items for teacher use.
A teacher might create a test with just a few items to create a formative assessment, or might even just add one item to a Test to give to students.  In almost all cases, the question will be administered as it was on RICAS.

Work has begun on 2019 Gr. 5 Math RICAS, and then we'll start Gr. 6-8 items.

In the "OLA Test Administration" window, the teacher would move the student(s) to "LOCKED", then move them back to "IN PROGRESS" when it is time to finish the test.  In this way the teacher controls when the student(s) can participate in testing.

For an Extended Text Response, you may want to include a Word Processing Toolbar for students to use in their response (to bold, italicize, etc.).  This does not include any spell check.

See the screenshot below of how you make this selection on the item Interaction.
